The target
What we build to
Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.1, Level AA, is the standard this site is built and tested against. That covers color contrast, keyboard access, text alternatives for images, visible focus, and content that works when you change text size or turn off animation.
What that means here
Specifically, on this site
Every text color is contrast-tested against the background it actually sits on.
Body text meets 4.5:1 or better. Large text meets 3:1 or better.
Everything works from the keyboard.
Focus is always visible, and the tab order follows the visual order.
Motion is optional.
If your device is set to reduce motion, every animation on this site is switched off rather than shortened.
Images carry text alternatives.
Decorative images are hidden from screen readers rather than described.
You can zoom.
Pinch zoom is never disabled, and the layout holds to 200% and beyond.
